The health check is the set of medical examinations undergone by an insured for preventive purposes.
The health check-up makes it possible to evaluate the state of health of the person, to detect possible pathologies or latent affections ignored, to propose in an early way better care of the patient.
Social Security offers a free health check, called health prevention examination (EPS) accessible to people insured under the General Scheme: employees, beneficiaries of Universal Health Protection (formerly CMU), RSA, retirees, unemployed, as well as to members of the Mutualité agricultural society ( MSA ).
How much does a Social Security health check cost?
The Social Security Code provides for a free medical check-up for all insured persons and their dependents affiliated to the general scheme and the MSA. Indeed, this health check is entirely covered by the patient’s social security fund.
How to benefit from the free health check from Social Security?
To benefit from this free health check, the insured person must make a request to CPAM using a form to be completed online or to be printed in paper format and returned to the examination center indicated. On its initiative, the health insurance fund can also invite the insured to register for a preventive health examination.
The insured can also contact the Health Examination Center closest to his home by mail or telephone.
It should be noted that the Health Insurance preventive health examination is aimed primarily at insured persons over the age of 16 who are in a precarious situation and who are far from the health system: disabled people, RSA beneficiaries, applicants for employment, etc.
Once the request has been taken into account, the insured person affiliated with the General Health Insurance Scheme or the MSA receives a summons specifying the day and place of his free health check-up, as well as a questionnaire on his medical file at report duly completed.

This questionnaire must be carefully completed, as its purpose is to guide the clinical examination or to trigger a request for additional examinations.
How is the periodic health examination carried out?
The health check-up examination is carried out in specialized centers. Its duration is generally around 2h30, but it can also take place in one or two stages depending on the center. The patient must go there on an empty stomach.
Depending on the age of the insured and the answers to the medical questionnaire, the health check includes a series of more or less modular examinations. The list of exams below is therefore not exhaustive:
- Series of biomedical analyzes (blood, urine, etc.)
- Tests (vision, hearing, breathing capacity, etc.)
- The clinical examination carried out by a doctor
- Cancer screening exam
- etc.
Balance sheet follow-up
Once the health check-up has been completed, the results are sent to the patient and their attending physician if the insured person so wishes.
TO NOTE
The CPAM and MSA health check-up allows the insured to not advance any costs for the examinations, tests, or clinical visits carried out during the check-up.
At the end of their periodic health examination, employees affiliated with the general CPAM scheme can benefit from a consultation with a general practitioner, fully covered by health insurance. Depending on the results of the health check, additional examinations may be decided during this medical consultation.
The insured can be referred to workshops ( diabetes, etc.) or health information sessions ( smoking cessation, etc.) depending on the results of their health check-up.

MSA affiliates between the ages of 16 and 74 can get a free and quick health check, near their home, in 3 steps :
- The insured completes a questionnaire
- He carries out his health check with MSA health professionals near his home
- He meets his general practitioner during a preventive consultation to take stock of this health check-up
